Rob Rufus on the Gift of Tongues

"I believe tongues is the entrance into the spirit realm. Paul says that when he prays in other tongues he does not speak to men but speaks mysteries unto God. 1 Corinthians 14: 4: “He that prays in other tongues edifies or charges his spirit up.” You know how I feel after one hour of praying in tongues? I feel ready to take on the world. My Spirit can get so run down and do you know that if your Spirit is run down it will affect your soul and your body? Do you know that your immune system is affected by the vitality in your Spirit? The Book of James says that when your Spirit leaves your body, your body dies. As soon as your Spirit leaves your earth suit, your earth suit has no energy to keep it alive.

It is your Spirit that is the mysterious power that is keeping your body alive? If your Spirit runs down; its batteries get low, your energy levels within your Spirit become so depleted that it affects your immune system, your emotions, your soul, your intellect, and your perspective on life.

So, when you pray in unknown tongues, the Bible says you edify your Spirit. I know that most times when I get ‘flu it isn’t because I was out in the cold, it is because my Spirit’s energy is run down by giving out, giving out, giving out until I don’t have inner strength to help my body and my soul maintain life. That is often why sickness and disease comes on people. I believe that if our Spirit was full of the anointing every day and we prayed in tongues regularly, we would avoid most illness. Paul said, “I pray in tongues more than all of you” “I wish you would all pray in tongues” he said to the Corinthians.

There is no formula attached to this. Sometimes I pray two to three hours and nothing happens. Sometimes I have prayed for five minutes and everything has happened. So there is not formula to this but I as a regular lifestyle I think it is wise to pray regularly in tongues. Just build your Spirit up".

This is such a good find! I love it! I have heard Joseph Prince talk about how praying in tongues is good for your immune system.....and your wholeness.....!!

Rob this shows your true colors, this is new age and is part of the occult. The spirits that you refer to are not from the God of the Bible but rather a twisted version that is based in the occult. The talking in tongues that charismatics often talk about is exactly the same as used by sharmas, witch doctors, hindus etc.

That is why we are instructed by Paul to test the spirits.

Lets get back to the Bible and not all the man made perversions such as you have posted. May God have pity on you, you need much prayer and obviously salvation.

Hi Tim, you obviously feel very strongly about this and so I won't even attempt to engage you in sensible debate, but let's not forget that the New Age and the demonic is always simply a counterfeit of the genuine and the real that God COMMANDS us to eagerly desire and pursue in His infalliable Word (1 Corinthians 14:1).

Secondly you seem to misunderstand that this isn't Rob Rufus posting. This blog is a quotes blog and posted by a team of people who have nothing to do officially with Rob Rufus.

But with those comments made, you are always welcome to express your opinion. I just think it would taken more credibly if you argued carefully and sensibly from Scripture rather than falling back on the classic cessationist defence that it is "new age and part of the occult".

Why would the Bible warn us of testing the spirits, of watching out for false spirits if there were no genuine spirits out there? If it were ALL false, then the Scriptural command surely would be reject ALL. Not test ALL. To have to test something implies that the genuine is out there and is real.

First off, is this a quote from Rob, or is it not?
Second, what biblical backing is there for such a view. Where in the scriptures does is mention Tongues as a top-up for your spiritual, or physical health.
This is an foolish view, based on nothing more that one mans experience.

Trevor says

Who needs the devil when the Church attacks itself at every given opportunity.
I have known Rob Rufus and his family for over twenty five years. He is a man of great integrity with a passion for the Church, the unsaved and very importnantly the word of God and Jesus his saviour.
He has never ever said he has perfect theology nor does he attack others with opposing views.
Just because he holds a view that is different from yours Tim, to say he needs to be saved is almost comical if it wasn't so sick and judgemental.
Perhaps you should take the log out of your own eye before concerning yourself with the splinter in someone else's.
In respect to Mark's comment, to say that this is a view based on one mans experience is also foolishness as it is a view held by many in the body of Christ backed up by scripture firstly and experience secondly.
I think it may have been more helpful to have expressed your concerns with humility and gentleness rather than with unfounded accusations that do nothing other than cause division and hurt.
A cursory reading of Church history shows the same intolerant attitude every time God illuminated something fresh in the scriptures.

PLEASE present me with the scriptures that back this up. I am still waiting.

A cursory reading of Church history shows the same intolerant attitude every time God illuminated something fresh in the scriptures.

Again you imply that this false teaching somehow is illuminated from scripture, how about sharing this.

Trevor Says,

Mark I do not intend to get into an arguement with you or anyone else for that matter by throwing scriptures around. The whole point of Rob's teaching was that praying in Tongues edifies you as the scripture teaches in I Corinthians. Why are you majoring on what is a minor issue.
And besides I notice that you decined to respond to my suggestion that a more humble and gentle attitude would be a more more fitting and God honouring way to respond to someone who holds a different view to yours.
I repeat, I know Rob very well and respect him immensely. That doesn't mean I agree with eveything he says nor would he expect me or anyone else to do so.
You obviously don't know him at all and choose to condemn what he says as a foolish view.
I say again is your theology perfect?
If not perhaps a question cloaked in love rather than a harsh accusation would be more appropriate.

He who speaks in tongues edifies himself.

It's not complicated gentlemen.

It's tiring to see an army keep firing at itself.

The Bible
He that speaks with a tongue edifies himself; but he that prophesies edifies the assembly.

Rob Rufus
He that prays in other tongues edifies or charges his spirit up.

I do not wish to fight when it comes to this matter. I am not trying to say that Tongues are not for today, or that the Charismatic movement is wrong.
If I had a lack of humility, then I apologize to you for this.
But unfortunately, this does not get rid of the subject at hand.
Rob is teaching a doctrine that is not biblical. When I saw this, and saw that it was from a man that I used to respect, my hair nearly fell out.
The view that Rob would like to present us with here, is a view on Christianity that is spiritualistic. It is more Pagan than Christian.
Rob even had to insert his personal words in the bible rendition to make it fit.

He that prays in other tongues edifies or charges his spirit up
So, when you pray in unknown tongues, the Bible says you edify your Spirit

This is not what the bible says. This is a perversion of the scriptures.

God Bless.
